Composting as a way of life
Compost Cab believes that getting young people into the habit of composting is one of the best things we can do to connect kids to the wider world in a personal and everyday way. So we couldn’t be more excited to work with schools. This is how we do it:
- Compost Academy. We’ve developed a curriculum partnership — crafted by a former Teach for America fellow and elementary school teacher — to help students learn about sustainability in general, and agriculture and food in particular. The program is built around the compost cycle, engaging kids from collecting their trash to harvesting and eating sprouts grown in their own compost! Compost Academy is designed for 3rd and 4th graders, but can be scaled up or down for pre-K through 6th, too. NOTE: We’re accepting new school partners for the January-June 2014 semester through December 15th, or until available slots are filled, whichever comes first. Email info – at – compostcab.com for more details.
- Presentations and demonstrations. From a half-hour in one classroom to a day-long event involving the whole school, we bring the magic of composting to you.
- Waste audits. We do a detailed analysis of your school’s current infrastructure, and determine how composting might best be a part of it. Our waste audits can be for management only, or tied to a classroom or entire grade as a unique teaching tool.
- Compost collection services. We’ll tailor a program to fit your needs at a reasonable cost and get your whole school composting.
We’re also happy to explore other opportunities — let’s be creative together. If you’re an educator or a parent, and you’d like to see Compost Cab working in your childrens’ school, please email info – at – compostcab.com and we’ll be in touch.
